Nine of Swords Tarot Card Meaning
The Nine of Swords depicts someone who is in mental anguish. Sword represent ideas. The invitation with this card is to examine how your thoughts make your suffering worse.
You may be in legitimate pain due to your own or another’s actions. But are you making it worse for yourself by letting your mind spiral in negative thought loops? Are you feeling guilty far in excess of any actual harm done? Are you making someone else’s behavior mean something about you?
The hope in this card is that the figure is waking up from a nightmare. Their mind was going wild, but now they can sit up and look at the facts in the light of day.
Take a deep breathe and consider:
- Most people’s actions aren’t about you at all, they are about themselves.
- No matter what has happened, you have access to healing and forgiveness within yourself.
- Nothing you do can change your essential nature, which is that you are pure Spirit having a human experience, which sometimes involves pain, but can never destroy you.
- You can’t create what you want by only focusing on what you don’t want.
- You can’t change the past. Your power to change your life only exists in the present.
Once you have examined the facts and taken a broader perspective, it’s time to focus on what you can do to solve the underlying problem. That may mean getting more information, drawing a boundary, asking for help, or making a backup plan. Whatever you do, don’t just keep spinning, because it isn’t helping.
